NARA Applauds EPA’s Increased Renewable Volume Obligation Proposal

Alexandria, VA, June 13, 2025 – The North American Renderers Association (NARA) today applauded the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) announcement of an increased Renewable Volume Obligation (RVO) under the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). The new targets, announced this week, represent a strong commitment to advancing clean energy while supporting the nation’s agricultural and rendering industries.

“This substantial increase in the RVO provides long-term certainty for producers,” said Kent Swisher, President and CEO of NARA. “We commend the EPA’s continued support of sustainable fuel technologies.”

Rendered animal fats and other recycled by-products processed by NARA members are vital feedstocks for the production of biodiesel and renewable diesel. These fuels significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help create a circular economy by turning waste into valuable, low-carbon energy.

“The rendering industry is proud to be part of the solution,” Swisher added. “This announcement supports American farmers, boosts rural economies, and promotes environmental stewardship—while reducing our nation’s dependence on petroleum-based fuels.”

NARA looks forward to continuing its work with the EPA, USDA, and industry partners to ensure a stable and growing market for renewable fuels and the sustainable feedstocks that power them.
