NARA Welcomes Moises Huerta to Lead Latin America Efforts

NARA is excited to welcome Moises Huerta as its new Latin America Director—an important step in strengthening the organization’s presence and partnerships across the region.

Based in Bogotá, Colombia, Moises will lead NARA’s efforts to grow market opportunities, build relationships, and support the use of rendered products throughout Latin America.

Building Connections Across the Region

In this role, Moises will serve as NARA’s on-the-ground representative, working closely with government agencies, industry leaders, and key stakeholders. His focus will be on helping members navigate regulatory environments, addressing trade challenges, and identifying new opportunities for growth.

He’ll also support NARA’s international marketing programs, helping ensure members stay connected and competitive in key markets.

A Strong Background in Global Trade

Moises brings more than 15 years of experience in agricultural trade and market development, with deep roots in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Most recently, he worked with the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC), where he led a regional training program that reached nearly 15,000 professionals across 13 countries. Through a creative cost-sharing approach, he helped expand the program’s reach while making it more accessible—something that speaks to both his strategic mindset and collaborative style.

Before that, Moises spent seven years with USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service at the U.S. Embassy in Colombia. There, he worked on market access and regulatory issues in a market that now represents about $4.5 billion in U.S. agricultural exports. His efforts helped ease trade barriers and support continued growth under complex conditions.

He also gained valuable experience earlier in his career working with the Embassy of Peru in Washington, D.C., supporting trade promotion efforts.

A Global Perspective

Originally from Peru, Moises brings both regional insight and a strong academic background. He holds degrees from Johns Hopkins University and has completed executive training at Harvard, Cornell, and Georgetown. He is fluent in both English and Spanish, which will be key as he connects with partners across the region.

A Warm Welcome from NARA Leadership

NARA’s leadership team is enthusiastic about what Moises brings to the role.

“Moises brings a rare combination of regional expertise, strong relationships, and a proven track record in advancing U.S. agricultural exports,” said Kent Swisher, NARA’s President & CEO. “We’re thrilled to have him on board as we continue to grow our presence in Latin America.”

Dana Johnson Downing, NARA’s Senior Vice President of International Programs, added:

“He’s exactly the kind of leader our members will appreciate—smart, practical, and highly experienced in the markets that matter most. He knows how to navigate complex systems and build relationships that lead to real results. We’re excited to see the energy and ideas he’ll bring to the team.”

Getting Started

Moises will kick things off by diving right into the industry. He’ll attend NARA’s Annual Spring Meeting in Chicago, where he’ll connect with members and industry partners, followed by visits to rendering operations on the East Coast.

He’ll also spend time in Washington, D.C., meeting with USDA and congressional offices to support NARA’s trade priorities—including efforts to address Mexico’s VAT policies that are impacting U.S. exporters and their customers.

Looking Ahead

Moises’ addition reflects NARA’s continued commitment to growing its impact in Latin America. With his experience, perspective, and collaborative approach, he’s well positioned to help members succeed in this important region.
