Did you know that June 7th was World Food Safety Day? Not only that but 2025 marks the 7th year that this day has been celebrated globally! The day originated as a way to raise awareness of food safety and promote tangible actions that aim to detect, prevent, and manage foodborne risks. Doing so not only benefits human health, but also leads to safe trade, responsible agriculture, and sustainable development.
This year’s theme is “Food Safety: Science in Action,” and its goal is to highlight the pivotal role that science plays in keeping our food safe to eat. Science’s impact on food safety can range far and wide from studies that examine how food spoils in the event of a power outage in a restaurant or at home, to outbreaks linked to imported foods, to voluntary recalls of contaminated products, and much more. Scientists are constantly assessing known and emerging risks to help gauge current and future best practices. Then they advise consumers, businesses, and authorities on their ideal implementation.
Rendering plays a vital role in the recycling of these products. By reprocessing these materials and destroying potential contaminates, rendering generates a new product that can still be used. Where these materials would originally be sent to take up space in a landfill or be composted, rendering is instead contributing to the circular economy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by repurposing these products.
Through utilizing renderers, food producers around the world are adhering to best practices to help keep our food safe. This includes producers and actors across the spectrum from farmers, businesses, restaurants, and grocers, to schools and families as well. NARA and the rendering industry are proud to be a key part of the food safety process and happy to celebrate World Food Safety Day!
