Ensuring the Production of Safe and Nutritious Animal Feed: The Rendering Code of Practice
For pet owners and livestock farmers, ensuring the nutrition, safety, and sustainability of animal food is likely at the top of their list — and it’s certainly at the top of our list here at NARA, too.
Through our sister program, the Animal Protein Producers Industry (APPI), we’ve launched several initiatives aimed at identifying and implementing essential quality measures in relation to the production of rendered animal proteins. These measures focus on managing healthy livestock while ensuring the safety and well-being of ranch and farm animals through the careful control of pathogens.
As part of this ongoing effort, NARA’s APPI, in partnership with the rendering industry, proudly established the Rendering Code of Practice.
What Is the Rendering Code of Practice?
Created to demonstrate the security, safety, and sustainability of the rendering process, the Rendering Code of Practice (COP) was established to identify a set of quality standards that renderers must abide by in the safe production of pet food and animal feeds. Through its certification process, NARA ensures organizations adhere to critical industrial requirements and quality measures that guarantee only the highest-quality rendered products reach consumers.
This industry-recognized certification was put into place to provide NARA’s members with additional resources to demonstrate their dedication and adherence to sustainability and quality within the rendering process. Benefits to earning a Rendering COP certification include:
